IN HIS OWN WORDS

Every song by every musician has a back story of how it came to be.  "In His own Words" focuses on the creation of every song Toby has released during his solo career.  Each week or two we'll feature another song.  This week Toby discusses "Unwind" from Refresh EP.

"Unwind"

"This track evolved out of a writing session Nick and I had at my place. I was determined to put the melancholia of ‘Ignorance’ behind me and return to my rock n roll roots. I had spent a lot of time revisiting my favourite albums: Blondie, the Pretenders, Reckless (Bryan Adams), AC/DC etc as well as being turned on by the current crop of US post punk pop bands like SUM 41, when we got the material into rehearsals, I went for the jugular and didn’t waste time on clever arrangements (which I had been guilty off as were the Angels to a lesser extent) the result was just as I had wanted: a guitar heavy pop rock tune that spoke of a broken heart, but with two fingers raised in defiance. I still love it…it began the journey back that continues to this day…"
