TOUR BLOG
May 20th 2007

(As posted on MySpace Blog on May 20th)

Karma has come to mind a lot this last month or so. The tour finished at the beginning of April and I was left with the feeling of utter calm about it. We had travelled the length and breadth of the UK in a ford transit van just like ‘back in the day’ squashed like sardines, happy to be there making music and it felt really good. As the tour progressed, I began to feel for the first time that I was truly finding my feet. Sure I had toured and put stuff out in 02/03 but somehow the time had not been right…it was a slog the whole way…I spent a lot of time busting my balls TRYING to get SOMEONE interested in what I was doing and it seemed to be meeting a wall of silence.

This time the doors were beginning to open even though the hinges were rusty, they were opening with a lot more ease than before. I wont bore you with the details of all the shows, you that were there and witnessed the fuck ups, the laughs the terror the fun will know what you saw…what I saw was an audience of friends who have tirelessly turned out for me time and time again and it simply makes me feel so very lucky that I can have that effect. One thing I will say is that when you are in a band there are moments in the journey where you can feel fate taking over and the air is electric…I cant explain it better than that! I felt it several times on this tour… I’ll give you an example; The Diamond, Mansfield…the club is a pretty none descript urban area surrounded by housing and derelict urban sprawl. It is run by a family of fanatical music fans who could not do enough for us. We were expecting a decent turn out, but it was rammed! The atmosphere was electric and something happened that night… a shift in the air that turned it from a standard show into ‘one I will always remember…the reaction was stunning and it went beyond merely playing a show into something else…it sent shivers down the spine and I cant wait to go back. I remember a similar show we did with the Angels at Sheffield Uni many years ago, it was in a the tiny refractory bar that could barely hold 150 people but that too was rammed and the feeling was the same…6 months later we signed our deal…

Point is people, something is happening, something has changed…I have changed…my band has changed and all the better for it. We are in uncharted water really and I am as happy as a bird to sail those seas.

What next? Well, certainly the most important thing is the recording of the next EP which I intend to do mid July with a tentative release around mid September just ahead of the tour. The dates are now nearly complete and it is country wide stints that will see the band take in 20 towns playing a whole new set of material as well as some old classics…

Life is good, the feeling is good and I am having no more doubts about anything, that time has passed and I am armed and ready to take on the world again…even if it only means playing The Diamond again, cause to me, those kinds of places are my world right now and happy I am to travel them…

Peace love and plenty of it.
